Journey To Hong Kong: Part I
[mappress mapid=”17″]
The journey to Hong Kong has begun. I started my journey by meeting Evan, Claire, and their beautiful baby, Luna, at Caper’s Café in the Portland Airport (PDX) for breakfast, complimentary of the Priority Pass Select I received by signing up for the American Express Platinum card.
After breakfast and spending some time playing with Luna, we sent our separate ways: them making the long trek to Ethiopia to visit our friends Kyle and Beckie who moved there last November, and me, headed to San Francisco for the day before making the 14+ hour flight to Hong Kong.
I’ve spent a good amount of time in Asia, even China for 9 days, but never been to Hong Kong before. I hear it is quite different than mainland China.
The trip to Hong Kong was put together because a friend I met back in the day through Couch Surfing meet-ups in Portland, Jordan, has been living in Hong Kong for the last few years working as a chef. Two other CS friends I made in Portland, Paige (who I’ve traveled with before to Iceland) living in San Francisco, and our hilarious kiwi (New Zealander) friend, Liz, also know Jordan, so we’re all making this epic trip happen together.
The current plan so far:
- 4/28: Paige and Jason arrive in Hong Kong
- 4/30: Liz arrives in Hong Kong
- 5/3 or 4: Disneyland Hong Kong
- 5/6*: Liz, Paige, and Jason depart to the Philippines
- 5/12*: Paige and Jason return to Hong Kong
- 5/13: Paige and Jason return to San Francisco
- 5/14: Jason returns to Portland
*Not currently booked (could change)
Paige and I have our flights booked in and out of Hong Kong (scored our tickets for $366.67 each!), and I have my flights in and out of San Francisco from Portland (~$50 using Southwest Airline miles one-way!), but outside of a few nights in Hong Kong, we don’t have anything else locked down. I like making trips happen this way because it allows for us not to be locked down by plans we made before showing up (I almost always recommend traveling like this).
I’ll be doing my best to add more details to my blog as we go, though I make no promises (you can see I haven’t updated my blog in quite a while…)
