Many people don’t realize that this incredible phenomenon (Northern Lights) is elusive and unpredictable. Yes, even in a place like Iceland…
I just recently spent eight days in Iceland attempting to see the Northern Lights, and though it never happened, it was still an incredible trip. If you end up going to Iceland and planning to see the lights, then follow these tips from Expert Vagabond.
The best time to see the Northern Lights are during the winter months of Iceland, and though it is possible to see them in the month of April (at the end of Iceland’s winter), it wasn’t while I was there. Two days before and two days after the lights were shining bright, but alas, sometimes you can’t experience everything. Guess I’ll just have to go again!

I think I read that if you want to see the Northern Lights, the best time to do so would be the winter months.
Yeah, I mentioned that in the post, however, I came in the winter…at least the end of it. The lights were great two days before and after I was in Iceland.
Thanks for posting this! I’m hoping to take my mom to Ireland via Iceland later this year. This is high on the wish list. Have you not seen them in person before?
Nope, not yet. On the list!
I saw them when I was in BC once and once faintly from Colville Washington
It was beautiful! I hope to see them in Iceland as well. Good list item. 😀
